V. Oakley Boren
Communications Manager
Oakley Boren joined the LAEDC as communications manager in February 2004. A self-proclaimed Jane of All Trades, she fits perfectly into her role as her responsibilities include maintaining LAEDC and WTCA websites, publishing the newsletter Business Leader and the online monthly updates, and producing marketing and event materials.
Ms. Boren also coordinates LAEDC and WTCA events such as the Economic Forecast and the Mid-year Update, the International Trade Outlook. She is responsible for designing colateral and creating event web pages and managing registration for these leading economic events. Ms. Boren takes the lead for the silent auction at the Eddy Awards from donation solicitation to processing the winning bids.
Prior to joining the LAEDC, Ms. Boren was an assistant account executive/researcher at Pacific Research and Strategies, a political public relations firm in Long Beach. Her duties included coordinating a traveling cultural exhibit for a Native American tribe in San Diego, interacting with state and federal government offices and the press, and producing marketing and research materials.
In 1999, Ms. Boren worked for the Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX.com) as a community development coordinator, interacting with the site’s customers ("traders"), and assisting with research and graphic production. She also wrote bi-weekly articles about life as a Thai student in the U.S. for Femme for Women, a weekly news magazine by Bangkok's leading English language newspaper, the Nation, for 2 years.
A native of Thailand and a Los Alamitos resident, Ms. Boren holds a BA in Communications with Cinema-Television minor, and a MA in Communications Management, Communication and Information Technologies from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication.
