Susan D. Stel
Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Susan D. Stel is Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Los
Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC). As CFO,
Ms. Stel has oversight for financial reporting, cash management,
legal and corporate matters, and is liaison with the LAEDC Executive
Committee, the LAEDC Audit Committee, the World Trade Center Board,
all LAEDC subsidiaries, and the investment portfolio manager under the
direction of the Finance Committee.
Ms. Stel is responsible for monitoring contract proposals ensuring
contractual and regulatory compliance on federal, state, and city contracts,
and directs corporate policies and procedures for all administrative, purchasing,
human resource and IT systems.
Ms. Stel has extensive financial management experience, including funding,
cash forecasting and management, internal control systems, compliance,
SEC and public reporting, pension plans, and insurance programs. Accomplishments
include initiation and completion of AAA Industrial Revenue Bond financing for
construction of a manufacturing plant, completion of a corporate merger of two
manufacturing plants, a successful LBO transaction, divestiture of a large
international importer from parent, and turnaround of a distressed manufacturing firm.
Prior to joining the LAEDC, Ms. Stel was Controller of WET Design, Universal City,
a privately held custom design and manufacturing firm specializing in
innovative water and fire features known world wide in 30 countries,
including the Fountains of Bellagio and Mirage Volcano in Las Vegas Nevada,
Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York, and Olympic Cauldron in Salt Lake City Utah.
Previous to WET Ms. Stel held the position of Executive Vice President, CFO and
Executive Member of Board of Directors of StackTeck Systems, Toronto, Canada,
the largest mold developer in North America. Ms. Stel also has a background
in public accounting as a CPA, with a regional firm, where she performed compliance,
as well as providing tax and accounting services to corporations, S corporations,
and partnership entities.
A native of California, Ms. Stel was born in Alhambra, and currently resides
in Covina. She holds a B.S. in Accounting, summa cum laude from the University
of La Verne, and has an active CPA license, and is a member of the AICPA, member
of Financial Executives Group, member Los Angeles World Affairs Council,
affiliated with Senior Executive Network, and registered counselor providing
service for a local domestic violence shelter.
