Our glossary will begin with a definition of Logistics followed by common logistics terms and words in alphabetical order.

Our thanks to Kate Vitasek, Managing Partner of Supply Chain Visions, who compiled the definitions that follow.  This is a partial list of the most relevant definitions.  The entire glossary is available in PDF.

Logistics: The process of planning, implementing, and controlling procedures for the efficient and effective transportation and storage of goods including services, and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements. This definition includes inbound, outbound, internal, and external movements.
Note: CaTLI would add to the above definition the efficient and effective transportation and “temporary storage” of  people by such means as trains, passenger ships, cars, buses and aircraft.
